Re: Happy Holidays to TRR
Yeah. That's boss Tweed in the front, head of Tammany Hall. The owl glassed guy in back is A. Oakey Hall. The family redeemed itself a generation later when my grandfather was head of the Jefferson Club, arch enemies of Tammany, who supported Woodrow Wilson and the reform ticket in Democratic party politics in New York. In one torch light parade, my grandmother was almost injured when Tammany supporters hurled a lighted torch into her carriage.

Re: Happy Holidays to TRR
It would be interesting to know just how many of our town members have famous ancestors... my grandmother always said we were related somehow to Hannibal Hamlin but after tracing my paternal grandfather's ancestors all the way back to the Mayflower, I never found proof... it must have been on the maternal side where of course, I hit roadblocks. I guess I'll have to quiz my Dad before he gets too old to recall too.

My fathres parents immigrated to America. I have seen my Grandmothers "WORK PERMIT". She was sixteen and workng in a mill. My father's parents are German and Irish. My mother's heritage is French, English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh. Anyone famous? Probably not. Maybe a horse thief or two. I have been told that, in some way, I am related to Mary, Queen of Scots. Not really sure about that. I am sure about one thing, though.
