What a treat! Certainly as timely this morning as it was 8 months ago.

I passed this along to JSN.

Let the sun shine in

Dear Residents of Rumford,
The folks behind the Rumford Reporter have absolutely no interest in helping your community advance. The true objective is to distract by
smearing the names and work of honest men and women of character. A simple logic check immediately shows you they are misconstruing almost all that happens in the town for the sake of their own personal agendas. Several are disgruntled former candidates for various town
jobs including town manager candidate Jen Norris, who is now the mind behind the green curtain of the Rumford Reporter. Others who were
either not elected, because they are largely unelectable or passed over for jobs they wanted in town government are the driving force behind the ugliness currently being propagated in the wonderful, hard-working town of Rumford. Ask yourself this simple question: Why in the world would the Sun Journal or the Rumford Falls Times want to hurt the community's reputation or success in any way. They are certainly
obligated to report events as they occur but have no ax to grind certainly.
More than any other reporter in the region Eileen Adams, at the Sun Journal, has sought to promote the good in the town of Rumford -- she's a well-mannered pro and therefore a threat to this narrow-minded and indeed small group of malcontents, who have neither the courage, integrity nor strength of character to put their names to what they write, say or propagate via the electronic version of a bathroom wall a.k.a. the Rumford Reporter.
This is a small group of ne'er-do-wells who have found some weird gratification in slandering and libeling businesses and people who
indeed are of great benefit to the community. Journalists, real ones, and newspapers are some of the most visible components of any healthy community. Like truly well-intentioned government leaders (Jim Doar) they are large and easy targets for cowards who would hide behind the anonymity so readily available online.
Newspapers are businesses that thrive in communities where business thrives. They thrive in communities that are growing and expanding, not ones that are withering on the vine. The publishers, editors and staff of both these well-respected and ethical publications -- which time and time again are held up as standard bearers for the craft and profession of journalism both in Maine and the U.S. are kind, good and talented people. They are also well-respected businesspeople who play by the rules, fess up when they make a mistake and work hard to make things right when they go wrong. They have absolutely no ill-will towards the townspeople or the business community in Rumford. Why would they? It's not in the best interest of their business to watch what should be a thriving community withering on the vine for the on-going shenanigans of a few under-employed and largely unemployable malcontents. The Falls Times and the Sun Journal have always reported events accurately and objectively.
Both are also so far above the likes of Jen Norris and the Rumford Reporter they choose simply to continue doing what they do so well -- tell the truth. They may indeed be owned by the same company but they also compete with each other while offering distinct news products. The Sun is a daily report, with a broad sampling of news from the region, state, U.S. and World. The Falls Times is honed specifically as a
weekly report, with the news of the River Valley. Anybody free of the mental defects that this small and small-minded group of angry and
misguided folks, who see a conspiracy behind every door and bogeyman in every closet -- those with a clear mind and no rusty old battle an ax to grind will easily see there are no specific charges, no clear or cohesive linkages to what is claimed by Rumford Reporter a.k.a. the
electronic bathroom wall, and the reality on the ground. Let this blog serve as a wake-up call for those who look to start things they do not have the intellect or integrity to finish. Going forward one name a day with their connections to this small and small-minded group will be posted here for those who really want to know whose giving Rumford its present black eye. The truth shall be told and the truth shall set Rumford free.
