Returning from an executive session, Rumford's Board of Selectmen voted to hire Gary Wentzell as Rumford's Fire Chief. Gary has been the Mexico Fire Chief for over ten years and he brings a great deal of experience to the position. As Mexico's Fire Chief Wentzell has build up an impressive Call-Force for that town.

One Chief Wentzell's greatest challenges will be to revive Rumford's Call-Force which hit an all time low of seven member's in 2008. The opening came about when former Chief John Wolfe stepped down to accept a position in Washington DC. Interim Chief Richard Coulombe did not want to quit the Union and therefore could not continue as Chief. All indications are that the taxpayers of Rumford are very pleased with the Board's decision in hiring Wentzell.

Just to clear something up. Interim Chief Coulombe was not offered the job, it had nothing to do with him not wanting to get out of the Union.

You are correct; there was no posting for the job. Is the town an equal opportunity employer?

I wonder if the town has been put at risk once again, by back door politics. I would hope they checked with the town attorney before the others that where interested in the position (if there where any) come knocking at the door with their own lawyers.
