If the Democrats were smart...
AUGUSTA — Republican lawmakers and Gov. Paul LePage's administration Monday renewed their calls for the Legislature to enact a trio of bills meant to limit the use of state-issued Electronic Benefit Transfer cards.

If the Democrats were smart, they'd give LePage what he wants on his welfare reform issues. There is little or nothing in what LePage wants that would really hurt the poor. At the same time, there is little or nothing that would save the state money.
It's all election year, window dressing.
Welfare, and all the myths related to it, is an emotional, hot topic for conservatives. It's the issue they love to hate. It's their excuse to be angry at the world.
Welfare is one of the topics the Tea Party loves to use to "gin up" the ignorant.
