RUMFORD — Citing reckless affraid spending by town government as their main reason  blah , a group of residents will try again to put a spending cap before voters.

Members of the committee are Blampied, Jim Windover, Paul Lowell, Henry Zinck and Diana Casey. Windover is a member of the Rumford Charter Commission tasked with updating the charter.

Blampied said they want to have a special election to allow voters to consider putting a $6 million cap on the town budget.

"Rumford will end high spending or high spending will end Rumford," Blampied  blah said.

"Given the financial burden of high property taxes on businesses and homeowners in the town of Rumford, we the undersigned believe that a critical circumstance exists.

"The cap is a very modest proposal," he said. "It would produce a budget only a few percentage points less than last year's budget, but it would stabilize the budget and stop the reckless affraid  spending town officials engaged in  blah when they suddenly added nearly a million dollars to the current budget."

I'm not an advocate for raising taxes either, but you people don't have a clue as to what high taxes really are.  You need to get out of Rumford and Maine once in a while and experience the real world of high taxes.

It's being done because the commission has not done it's due diligence in getting things done  confused. If a single person can make changes in three days by going through the charter and getting it to the commission in a timely manner then the commission had more than enough to do what is right for the people. they haven't and got an extension to allow more feet dragging.

Frankie, Frankie, Frankie...any one person can get anything done quickly (three days) when they are furthering their own agenda.  The Charter Commission represents every single member of the community, not just Rumford's Tea Party clan.  For this reason alone, I hope Phil Blampied, et al., fails in this effort.
