Republicans want Legislature to delay final adjournment
AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The latest face-off between Gov. Paul LePig and the Maine Legislature will apparently have to be resolved in court, but House Republicans are hoping there might be another way.
Lawmakers are scheduled to come back to Augusta for a one-day session on Thursday. That session was planned to vote on vetoes, but there will only be six of them. That's because the governor decided not to send 71 other vetoes to the Legislature, claiming they had already adjourned on June 30.
The Governor's press secretary said Monday the Legislature "should do the right thing", and come into session for more than three days, so he can submit the vetoes. House GOP leaders are also hoping that happens, or that at least the Legislature does not vote to finally adjourn for the year, in case the court rules the Governor is correct.
