If the House bill (as written) passes in the Senate, over the next ten years, twenty-four million Americans will lose their health insurance.

If the House bill (as written) passes in the Senate, America's richest will reap a "huge" tax windfall.

The eleven states that will be hit the hardest regarding the bill's pre-existing conditions provision, all voted for Trumpery.

"Insurance for everyone", "No one will lose health coverage", "Pre-existing conditions is in the bill!"

So, how will seniors fair under Trumpery Care?

The AHCA (Trumpery Care) will dramatically increase costs and reduce coverage for seniors.

The AHCA raises age band ratings, allowing insurance companies to charge seniors 5 times as much as younger people. Premiums for older adults would be 15-20% higher than under Obamacare.

A CBO report found that a 64-year-old making $26,500 would see more than a 750% increase in premiums or more than half his or her annual income.

The AHCA (Trumpery Care) as written, pulls $800+ billion out of the health care system (tax cuts for the wealthy, elimination of tax penalties), and replaces it with $8 billion to support Medicaid and pre-existing conditions.

Most of the tax savings would go to the wealthy and very wealthy. According to the Tax Policy Center, the top 20 percent of earners would receive 64 percent of the savings and the top 1 percent of earners (those making more than $772,000 in 2022) would receive 40 percent of the savings.

The Republican claim is "competition" will make up the $760+ billion shortfall.   dunno

Because the subsidies offered in the AHCA don't vary with local insurance prices the way subsidies do with Obamacare, residents of high-cost, rural areas like Rumford and the rest of Oxford County would suffer.

This morning Speaker Ryan said he is proud of this bill.love

I wonder how many healthcare related jobs will be lost?  You can't pull almost a $Trillion out of a market without affecting jobs.

It's beginning to sound like the Republicans realize that the best way to proceed is to repair the ACA.  If so, the Democrats need to jump on board and cooperate and compromise.

McConnell says he'll rework health bill, but offers Plan B

Previously, other Republicans have said that if their broad drive to dismantle much of Obama's law struggled, a smaller bill with quick help for insurers and consumers might be needed. They've said it could include provisions continuing federal payments to insurers that help them contain costs for some low earners and inducements to keep healthy people buying policies — a step that helps curb premiums.

McConnell's comments suggested that to show progress on health care, Republicans controlling the White House and Congress might have to negotiate with Democrats. While the current, wide-ranging GOP health care bill has procedural protections against a Democratic Senate filibuster, a subsequent, narrower measure wouldn't and would take 60 votes to pass.

In a written statement, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called it encouraging that McConnell had "opened the door to bipartisan solutions." He said the focus should be on continuing the federal payments to insurers, which Trumpery has threatened to halt.

Democrats acknowledge Obama's law needs changes that would help curb the growth of health care costs. But they say the GOP is exaggerating the problem and note that several insurers have attributed their decisions to stop selling policies in unprofitable areas, in part, to Trumpery administration indications that it may halt payments to insurers. A federal court has ruled the payments weren't authorized by Congress but has allowed them to temporarily continue.
