Three take out papers for two Rumford selectmen seats

RUMFORD — Three people have taken out papers for two selectmen's seats in the June town meeting elections.

Incumbent Jeff Sterling, who was twice elected to fill two remaining one-year terms, is seeking a three-year term.

Incumbent Mark Belanger has yet to take out papers, Town Clerk Beth Bellegarde said Friday.

Former Selectman Frank DiConzo and Candice Casey have also taken out papers for the Board of Selectmen.

At last year's town meeting, a majority of voters elected Jeremy Volkernick over DiConzo.

As for other municipal offices, Craig Chamberlain has taken out papers for the Board of Assessors. Chamberlain resigned from the Board of Appeals on April 5.

On Thursday night, selectmen accepted and approved his resignation by a 5-0 vote and then unanimously appointed him to fill the remaining term of assessor Peter Perry, who died recently.

In his resignation letter, Chamberlain said “a clear conflict of interest” between the two positions forced him to resign from the appeals board to accept the selectmen's nod to the Board of Assessors.

Bellegarde said assessor Brian Gagnon's term is up, as is Regional School Unit 10 Director Linda Westleigh's term.

Although papers cannot be turned in to Bellegarde until May 2, the deadline to return them is May 16.

I'm also hearing that Jolene Lovejoy has taken out papers.

Candice Casey annnounced last week she won't be turnng her papers in because of the auditor mess. Except for Jeff Sterling who is on the board Casey is the only one who goes to the meetings. We should write her in, she would do a good job, she uncovered the auditor scam, she would save money, and she would show up ready to go to work. None of the others have any idea what hase been going on. If you want to run for office youshould go to all the meeting for that office atleast the year before so you know whats going on.
