Letter in the Rumford Falls Times June 9, 2010

To the Editor
We,the undersigned,are running for the Rumford Board of Selectmen and it has come to our attention that a flyer we put out in support of our candidacy has met with surprise and consternation on the part of some voters.

First, let it be known that this flyer, which referred to the taking of Tarowa (sic),a Japanese controlled island in the Pacific during WW II. in the three words used to this day by the United States Marines to describe the effort it took to conquer and rout out the enemy, was mailed only to male veteran voters or those men in Rumford who should have been veterans because it is our belief that every man owes his country his service.

Second, the three words which caused such consternation may be considered profanity in other contexts but this context has been sanctified by the death of many thousands of American boys on that far-away atoll. Let it be known to your readers that Tarowa (sic) is not the only island so sanctified. The three words in question are also used by the Marines to this day to describe the horrific effort needed to subdue the Japanese at Gaudalcanal (sic).

Third,it is our considered opinion that the Rumfordian heterosexual male voter, veteran and otherwise, who has swallowed the radical feminist-homosexual agenda without ingurgitating the least drop of its meaning - to say nothing the placid acceptance of the steady erosion of his constitutional rights by Lesbian-dominated school and court systems- needed a kick in the proverbial rear to wake him up to what it is those men on Tarowa (sic) died for.

That is why the flyer was sent out and we are not in the least perturbed by the outrage it has created in the minds of the Socialist Democrats who maintain a chokehold on the town we love and wish to see restored to its former prominence.

It may be that when this letter is printed it will be obvious that our write-in candidacy failed to get enough patriotic voters to the polls.

Be that as it may, we are not daunted by the idea that it will take a lot longer to pound common sense into the craniums of Rumfordians than it took the Marines to pbund (sic) shrapnel into the craniums of the enemy on Tarowa (sic). Quod erat demonstratum. We remain.

OMG she just insulted the whole town and basically called them idiots. She has no clue how to win an election....thank god!

She is one disturbed individual.

The Rumford Reporter I'm not sure if it is possible either (in this town). The letter you speak of was supposed to be a letter to our Veterans. They died on "that f'n island" for our right to prosper and be free. We are far from that here in Rumford because of a few people in charge. It wasn't our intention to shock but it was our intention to let our Veterans know that they didn't fight in WWII for nothing. They affectionately refer to it as "that f'n island". There is a letter to the editor in this week's paper explaining why that was done.

You know I've reserached and asked a few marines, none of them know of any reference using the F word associated with Tarowa Island, other than in a script of the movie "Flag of our Fathers". So is she quoting a movie then?

My father, a Marine Corp veteran of WWII, wounded in battle (Iwo Jima), and a witness to the famous flag raising, would NEVER use and didn't EVER use such language in public. In fact, I never heard him use it in private. Marines have more class than that.

You would think she could at least spell Tarawa correctly.

I'd venture to guess that this letter was written by Peter Tinkham. It's not Jennifer's style, and it's different than the piece written by Juliet Alexander.
However, it WAS signed by all three...

has anyone addressed how homophobic and sexist it is (I am leaving out "stupid as shit" and "idiotic")? it's an INSULT to any thinking person.
