favorite christmas songs
If you could put together (ok, i guess we all can) an album of favorite christmas songs... what would they be?
Let me start off with a few of my faves
Blue Christmas
Pretty Paper
Please Daddy, Don't Get Drunk this Christmas
An Old Christmas Card

I love The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Especially Wizards in Winter, A Mad Russian's Christmas and Queen of the Winter's Night.

Re: favorite christmas songs
Oh, give me a noose I can hang from the tree
I need no excuse to end my misery
This holiday season is all the more reason to die
Oh, pull up a stool and an ear to a fool
Once found some solace in the season of yule
This holiday season is all the more reason to cry
I put on my mittens, one green and one red
And I walk alone where they bury the dead
The snow falls as I breathe
It's a Gothic, death-rock Christmas eve
The bottle is empty
The sleigh has a flat
The stripper in my bed is ugly and fat
Her tassels are tangled and what's worse
My jingle won't jangle
This time of the year makes me sick to my guts
All this good cheer is a pain in the nuts
When it's your career to be down in the dumps
Tidings of comfort and joy really suck
I feel like St. Nicholas is pulling my leg
This thing we call "Christmas" is a sorry black plague
This holiday season is
All the more reason to die
I need no excuse to end my misery

Re: favorite christmas songs
My son loves the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I am going to check out Queen of the Winter's Night. As for me, well, I'm not big on Christmas for what it has become. I believe in Christmas for what it was, is, and will be, hopefully. I like songs like "The Little Drummer Boy", "Do You See What I see?". I like alot of the instrumentals. Especially the intrumentals with nature sounds. "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen". I am not a "Scrooge", but we all could pay heed to the lesson that Scrooge learned.
Giving gifts at Christmas is nice, but giving of yourself truly is giving. Merry Christmas to all.
By the way, I do believe in Santa.

Nevsky: Are you trying for shock value? If so, grow up and take that garbage elsewhere. If not, then I pity you. It must be terrible to be that depressed. As for music, the original 78rpm recording of Bing Brosby's "White Christmas" gets me every time.

Re: favorite christmas songs
If you're talking more traditional songs I really like Do You Hear What I Hear? and of course The Maine Christmas Song.

Re: favorite christmas songs
You know we don't know Nevsky situation. Maybe he couldn't get his kid what he wanted for Christmas. Maybe hes sitting in a lonely poor Russian village. Maybe Nevsky is a true conservative and is still upset about Obama winning the election and its got him down. It could be a number of things so lets not be so quick to judge.................(I mean either that or hes a FREAK!)

Re: favorite christmas songs
Pete's sake guys...Nevsky's either a Tom Waits fan or a drunk...either way, he didn't write the song...nor the Russian poem. It's called "Christmas Suck" by Peter Murphy.

Re: favorite christmas songs
oh, can i just say that i really hate it when perfomers (most of them) sing "white christmas" without the wonderful introduction that Mr. Berlin wrote for it.
The sun is shining , the grass is green
The orange and palm trees sway
There's never been such a day
In Beverly Hills, L. A.
But it's December the 24th
And I'm longing to be up north........
Oh ... I'm dreaming.... etc.

Re: favorite christmas songs
Awwww... I love Tom Waits.
He does a great version of "Go Tell It On The Mountain" with the Blind Boys of Alabama.
Other classics:
The Christmas Song - Aaron Neville
The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
Run Run Rudolf - Chuck Berry, Grateful Dead, many others...
Anything sung by the Chipmunks
Hark the Herald Angels Sing - the Peanuts gang
Santa Claus is Coming to Town - BrUUUUUUUUUUUce

Re: favorite christmas songs
Christmas, Christmas time is near
Time for toys and time for cheer
We've been good, but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast
Want a plane that loops the loop
Me, I want a hula hoop
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas, don't be late.
Want a plane that loops the loop
I still want a hula hoop
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas, don't be late.
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas, don't be late.
Honestly, how can anyone resist this??

Oh, I got to hear Alvin and the Chipmunks tonight! How can you get sick of that song? Went to the Love Came Down at Christmas concert at the Colisee in Lewiston tonight. Beautiful music, beautiful singing - my favorite is always Ode to Joy, but I love all of it...even Bruce...lol Oh yeah, don't forget John Lennon So This is Christmas
