Local Preparedness Group Seeks Volunteers
The Oxford County Medical Reserve Corps needs your help. We are establishing teams throughout the county to act as local responders to major events. Our function will be to assist Maine CDC and local hospitals with staffing hospital overflow care facilities, mass immunization clinics, and special needs shelters. We need both clinical staff as well as support personnel.
Clinical Volunteers: If you have training working in a medical capacity we have positions that need your expertise. We also need help from those with mental health training and spiritual support.
Support Volunteers: We cannot function without a large number of people who can perform support functions such as checking people in, issuing and receiving paperwork, or simply directing people to the appropriate place. If you can sit or stand for a couple of hours, we need you on our team.
Leadership Volunteers: Every good organization needs a few good leaders. Under the Incident Command System, we need to fill a number of positions to assure that the process runs smoothly. If you have leadership experience, we need to speak with you about how your experience can best work into our system.
When an emergency occurs, it is too late to begin screening and training volunteers. Our program handles those tasks ahead of time. We review each applicant, do a background check, and verify credentials. We then provide members with both online and in-person training based upon their level of participation. People who wish to be available for deployment outside of Oxford County are required to take additional training.
